Chrome runs that recognition on its vendor’s own service rather than on the device, so the recording stays out of our systems but can still travel; Edge and other Chromium-based browsers show the microphone but often fail to recognise speech. Text-to-speech is synthesised on our side and sent back as a finished audio clip.
